Dust off your hiking boots: We're headed to Delaware Water Gap. Please join us on Saturday, Oct. 31 as we explore, even conquer, nature's rugged terrain. (Yes, it's a different way to spend Halloween. We'll pretend we're hikers.)

We'll hike Mt. Minsi in Pennsylvania. The path climbs about 1,000 feet, spans four miles round trip, and takes about 2 1/2 hours to complete, according to the park service. It also offers impressive views of Mt. Tammany, based across the river in New Jersey.

Let's meet about 9:30 a.m. at the K-Mart/LA Fitness shopping center off 25th Street in Wilson Borough, between Route 22 and William Penn Highway, near Easton and Palmer Township. Expect to leave by 10 a.m. and return about 4 p.m.

I am taking a poll to see if anyone is interested in attending an IronPigs game. Tickets sell quick, so I will have to lock in an advance purchase. No date yet, but I would like to see the Scranton/Wilkes Barre Yankees the weekend of June 18-19. Tickets generally cost $6-9. Once I make the purchase, I can't refund you. You would have to eat the ticket or find a replacement. The IronPigs policy is tickets are non-refundable.

Obviously, it would be simpler if we could just show up at the gate and buy however many tickets. But given how quickly IronPigs tickets sell, buying in advance is the best option.

Hey Gang,

I am taking a poll to see if any one is interested in taking a pilgrimage to visit Catholic landmarks in Manhattan. The following Web site recommends a five-stop tour that covers much of the borough.

The highlight is St. Patrick's Cathedral in Midtown along with St. Patrick's Old Cathedral, St. Peter's Church, The Shrine of St. Frances Xavier Cabrini and The Shrine of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton.

We could visit all five stops or shorten if we wish to save time. Walking to all five (including time to stop at each location and a lunch break) would take about seven hours. Taking the subway would save time.

What would it cost? At least $50. Last time I checked, a round trip to NYC via Trans-Bridge costs $37. Also plan on food costs and, if necessary, subway or other mass transit.

I have a contact with a NYC Catholic young adults group who will meet us for a tour of St. Pat's. We're on our own rest of the way. Remember, the route is negotiable. I simply want to gauge interest for now.

I had posted an earlier blog about attending a Lehigh Valley IronPigs game. We have an opportunity through Slate Belt Arise, a Christian group that has reserved 50 seats in the PPL Picnic Patio for Wednesday, July 28. Games are at Coca-Cola Park off Airport Road in Allentown.

The PPL Picnic Patio, along the 3rd base line, is a great spot to watch the game and dine outdoors at big picnic tables and enjoy a fun night of baseball and fellowship. The theme for this night’s game is “Faith Night” which will include Christian music and a player testimonial. Hope to see you and your friends and family there! Everyone is welcome!

Lace up and join ABCYA for the annual Walk For A Healthy Community Day on June 12 in downtown Bethlehem. What's neat about this walk is you can raise funds to benefit your choice of 23 charitable organizations that make the Lehigh Valley a better place to live. Review the list and you will see, even as many of the organizations are secular, they are clearly doing the Lord's work. So the cause is yours.

We will meet between 8-9 a.m. in downtown Bethlehem at Main and Lehigh streets. Registration begins at 7:45 a.m. (you can register online now) and the 5K walk begins at 9 a.m. Here is a map of the route. For lightweights, there is an alternative one-mile fun walk at 9:15 a.m.

Refreshments are provided. After we finish, we'll enjoy brunch at a downtown deli/cafe to be named later.

Raise $25 and you get a free T-shirt. Raise you $50 and you can enter a raffle.

Hey Gang,

Here is the update on our Manhattan pilgrimage.

We'll meet about 8:20 a.m. Saturday, June 26 at the park-and-ride lot on William Penn Highway in Bethlehem Township, off Route 33. We'll take the 8:40 a.m. bus for a 10:30 a.m. arrival in NYC. (If that's too early, another bus runs 9:40 a.m.)

The highlight is visiting St. Patrick's Cathedral in Midtown. A colleague from our NYC Catholic young adults group will be our tour guide. He has agreed to have lunch with us thereafter.

Time permitting, we'll also hit other Catholic landmarks: St. Patrick's Old Cathedral, St. Peter's Church, The Shrine of St. Frances Xavier Cabrini and The Shrine of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton.

We'll navigate as we go. For the record, Cabrini is way up in northern Manhattan, St. Pat's is in midtown, and the other three are downtown. Assuming we hit all five, we can take subways to alleviate long stretches while walking the remainder.

I suggest hopping a subway to hit Cabrini first, return midtown for St. Pat's, have lunch, then finish the journey. We'll call it a day when we're ready. Buses leave NYC to the Lehigh Valley frequently in the afternoon and evening.

A round-trip ticket to NYC via Trans-Bridge costs $37. I will purchase, you can reimburse me. If you cancel a reservation, I need to know by Thursday, June 24. I plan to purchase tickets Friday, June 25.

So get ready for some spiritual, cultural and physical nourishment!

This year, we are planning Saturday, Sept. 4 (Labor Day weekend) at our usual site in White Haven, Pa. with Whitewater Challengers. Price is $58.95 plus $5.75 for a prepaid lunch. Free hot dog cookout afterward if we wish to stay.

Hard to believe but ABCYA's fourth anniversary is upon us.

To celebrate, we will gather from noon to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 14 at Assumption BVM church (the site of weekly Bible study) at 4101 Old Bethlehem Pike in Colesville, just west of Bethlehem. Won't you join us for outdoor festivities?

The Christmas Season traditionally lasts 12 days ending on the Feast of the Epiphany. Join us on January 6th for a celebration of the coming of the Three Wise Men. We will have dinner and someone will be named King and Queen and they will have "hosting duties" deciding what merriment they would like to have during the evening. The party will be held Thursday January 6 at 7pm. We will also have a traditional house blessing and scripture readings at Gerry's house 720 Shields Street Bethlehem PA 18015.

This is not an ABCYA sponsored activity but a few of our members have already signed up and we thought more might like to join. A dinner, dance class and dance is being held at St. Catharine of Siena Cathedral. The cost is $25 to attend and includes a casual buffet dinner by Estell's Catering, dance instruction by Con Gallagher, and then dancing to DJ Best of Times. Mr. Gallagher will be giving a lesson on the East Coast Swing (formerly known as the Jitterbug) and the Foxtrot (basic ballroom dance). The Cathedral is located a few blocks from the fairgrounds at 1825 West Turner St. I have attached a flyer as well. If you can't make it til 7:00 that's fine too. There will be Stations of the Cross, with a Procession, Benediction and guest Homilist at the conclusion of Adoration at 7:00. A perfect special Adoration etc. for the Lenten season. Adoration will have been going on all day, and we will be coming in at the tail end of it, so please know this when you come into the church.

We are headed to Knoebels Theme park in Elysburg this Saturday, July 23rd! Come with us as we travel to America's largest FREE ADMISSION Amusement park! Just pay for the rides you want to go on! Most rides cost .75 - $1.75. They also have Pay One Price Plans to ride all you want for a flat charge, with prices dropping dramatically at 5:00pm.
We'll be meeting at 1:00pm at Ruthie's house- 2420 W South St, Allentown PA 18104. and will be leaving from there promptly between 1:00 - 1:15. The trip will take us about 2 hours. Leaving later in the day allows us more time to enjoy the park later in the afternoon and evening when the weather is not as hot. The park is open till 10:00! We'll leave to come home when the majority of us want to, we'll have no set return time. Don't worry about dinner, according to Food Network, Knoebels has some of the best food of any amusement park in the country!
We'll need people willing to drive!! Since we are saving money on admission as there is none (PARKING is FREE too!) it shouldn't be a problem for each of us to pitch in a 5 spot or so for gas/mileage to the person/s willing to drive! Emma Jane (Heather’s Cabin) is calling us!!! She would like us to come see her Saturday October 8th to the 9th. Please bring $10 which is for the stay and breakfast. Also brown bag your lunch. The usual activities will take place, hiking, games, fire pit and Church on Sunday. Keep in mind, there is no plumbing which means outhouse and no showers! If you need camping supplies please let me know. We will meet up in Easton at 9am at the KMart parking lot on 25th St. If you want to carpool, meet up ahead of time with each other.
