We've all seen them, those kind ladies and gents who hand out the wet towelets at the PortaPotties....be a volenteer for ShareCare, an organization that raises funds for the needy. August 7th, from 6:30 - 9:30 pm. All you have to do is hand out the towelets, no toilet cleaning. Please call John at 610.691.0288 if you can volunteer. Ever thought about going on a "missions" trip and wished they did not involve overseas travel or showering in a "temporary" facility? Here's your chance! The Word FM radio station is partnering with Life Builders for a day mission trip in Allentown on 9/20/08. There is a fee involved. If you want to go, register by 8/25 and pay $75 - this includes a tee shirt, meals, work site set up, and materials. The fee goes up to $100 on 8/26. There is a skills inventory to complete to assign functions that day so there is no guarantee of working together on specific tasks with other members but you are guaranteed that you will be working along side other Christians! The Mary Immaculate Center, where we had our retreat, is in need of volunteers for the next six weeks before they shut down. They had to reduce the number of staff to reduce cost, but now are shorthanded since retreats will still take place until closing. I asked how we can help. If you would like to help out below is what they are need of. Mr. Six is trying to keep the shifts down to 4 hours. August 1st and 2nd: morning cook and dishwasher for the breakfast and lunch shift and an evening cook and dishwasher. August 8th and 9th: Two morning cooks Saturday and Sunday and two cooks and a dishwasher Saturday evening.

Mr. Six is looking for some housekeeping help this week. He has a good size
group of football players there until Thursday which means lots of rooms needing to be cleaned. He needs to clean the whole second floor before the weekend retreat comes in Friday
evening. Daytime help Thursday or Friday would be ideal, but he could also use some help Thursday evening. Whatever time you can spare would be great. Only a few hours can help them tremendously!! Please contact him at msix@adphila.org

Lace up and join ABCYA for the annual Walk For A Healthy Community Day on June 12 in downtown Bethlehem. What's neat about this walk is you can raise funds to benefit your choice of 23 charitable organizations that make the Lehigh Valley a better place to live. Review the list and you will see, even as many of the organizations are secular, they are clearly doing the Lord's work. So the cause is yours.

We will meet between 8-9 a.m. in downtown Bethlehem at Main and Lehigh streets. Registration begins at 7:45 a.m. (you can register online now) and the 5K walk begins at 9 a.m. Here is a map of the route. For lightweights, there is an alternative one-mile fun walk at 9:15 a.m.

Refreshments are provided. After we finish, we'll enjoy brunch at a downtown deli/cafe to be named later.

Raise $25 and you get a free T-shirt. Raise you $50 and you can enter a raffle.

The festival will have different reading stations setup, our group is going to help with the science station the kids will come to the station and we can take turns reading books to the group ,we can act out the stories and interact with the kids to make it fun,there will also be setup a science project the kids can make and we will be able to help with that to. they will need our help from 1030am til 315pm ( the festival begins at 11 and goes to 3pm) if you can help all day ,or just an hour or two that would be fine.The address is313 E.Third St. Bethlehem ,Pa there will be a big tent setup .If you think you would like to help or have any questions please email Kris@abcya.org as soon as possible then i can get you a volunteer tee shirt for the day.

We are going to help the Canal Systems of the Lehigh Valley with a cleanup on and around Sand Island in Bethlehem on Saturday May 21st from 9:00am til 12:00pm. we will meet that morning at Sand Island in Bethlehem,Pa.if you can help ,or have any questions please email Kris@abcya.org

We are going to participate in the Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community on Saturday June11th in historic downtown Bethlehem the walk begins at 9:00am and registration begins as early as 7:45. We will be going to Victory House on Saturday July 30th to prepare and serve a meal. Abcya is going to help the Miracle League of the Lehigh Valley on Saturday August 20th ,to be Angels in the Outfield at a 5pm baseball game ,we will be helping special needs kids have the opportunity to play baseball,we should get there 15minutes before the game so we can sign in as volunteers and then we will get a mini training of what we will be doing .They say it's lots of fun. The special field is at 5858 Sell Road, Schnecksville along Rte.309 approximately 9 miles from Route22. If you can help ,or have any questions please email Kris@abcya.org

Calling all friends, family and good hearted people. I am going to Bloomsburg with Tucker and Lilly this Saturday, Sept 24, to help with clean up from the floods. I don't know if you have heard about the destruction caused by the flooding; it's unimaginable.

When the river flooded, several sewer plants spilled over into the river. The river then flowed into the homes. When the water receeded, it left mud and sewage in people's homes. Also, mold is growing at a faster rate than normal due to the bacteria in the mud from the sewage. Bloomsburg is in desperate need of help! The people are devistated.

I am in contact with a group called AGAPE. They are looking for help with the following:
Mudding out homes
disinfecting homes
answering calls at the call center
sorting clothing/donations
delivering meals
making bag lunches
much more.....
I will pass out directions and a meeting place later in the week to those who respond about participating. The tentative meeting time is 6am. I plan on staying until the center closes at 8pm.

If you are interested, she can send you the forms explaining info about the mud out. They are asking that anyone helping with the mudout or disinfecting to have had a tetnus shot with in the past 5 years. Also children 12 and older only please. There is a volunteer application attached too. If you plan on helping out, please have the form completed in advance.

Let me know ASAP if you will be coming along to help and whether or not you can help with the mudout/disinfecting. AGAPE would like to know in advance so they can coordinate most efficiently how we can assist them the best.
